ILC Active Shooter Training

Articulate Storyline

TOOLS: Articulate Storyline, Canva, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot

HIGHLIGHTS: Scenario based learning, interactive tools, knowledge checks, quiz, chunked content - by preventive strategies, run, hide, and fight

BUSINESS PROBLEM:

This is a fictional business called ILC Insurance. It is a property insurance company.

To address rising safety concerns - including unauthorized building access, harassment incidents, and a nearby active shooter event - ILC Insurance identified a critical need for updated staff training on security protocols and emergency response.

AUDIENCE: ILC Insurance staff, ranging in age from 22-65 and primarily college-educated professionals, regularly use digital tools to manage client interactions and claims. While they received basic safety training upon hire, evolving threats and outdated protocols have created a gap in preparedness—especially regarding active shooter scenarios and recent security breaches. Employees have expressed concern over inconsistent safety expectations and unauthorized building access. This training initiative equips learners to recognize safety risks, follow updated protocols, and confidently apply “run, hide, fight” procedures, ensuring a safer, more secure workplace.

PROCESS: To address security gaps at ILC Insurance, I applied the ADDIE/SAM model to design and develop a scenario-based eLearning module using Articulate Storyline. Collaborating closely with stakeholders and the SME, I created a content map, storyboard, and interactive tools aligned to updated safety protocols. The course included knowledge checks and a scenario based quiz (Kirkpatrick Model of Learning - Level 2) and was completed by staff within one week. Effectiveness was measured through post-training interviews at five to six months after training, assessing retention and application of safety procedures, including active shooter response and use of Employee Family Resources (Kirkpatrick Model of Learning - Level 3).

SOLUTION: ILC's goal was to equip employees with daily preventive measures and clear procedures for active shooter scenarios, emphasizing the "run, hide, fight" approach. Success was defined by preventing harmful infiltration and ensuring the safety of all personnel through consistent, actionable preparedness. I developed a 20-minute eLearning module using Articulate Storyline, incorporating scenario-based instruction and interactive features such as embedded video, clickable elements, and real-time knowledge checks. The content was strategically segmented to enhance engagement and ensure accessibility across a diverse professional audience.

G2GF Member Retention Articulate Rise

TOOLS: Articulate Rise, Canva, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot

HIGHLIGHTS: Instructional videos, interactive tools, knowledge checks, scenario based quiz, chunked content by correct form for upper body, core, and lower body

BUSINESS PROBLEM:

This is an imaginary fitness center with group exercise coaches that instruct proven, scientific exercises for health - building muscle and endurance for members of all ages. It is called, “G2GF” (Got to Get Fit).

G2GF faces a high rate of member injuries due to inadequate exercise demonstrations and lack of form correction by coaches, contributing to a 30% annual member loss.

AUDIENCE: G2GF coaches, primarily part-time employees ranging in age from their 20s to 50s, are expected to demonstrate strong knowledge of weightlifting techniques, muscle groups, and injury prevention. However, outdated certifications and inconsistent practice have led to gaps in safety instruction. To reduce member injuries, coaches must consistently model each exercise with a focus on proper form and actively correct members during workouts to ensure safe execution.

PROCESS: To address membership loss due to injuries at G2GF, I applied the ADDIE/SAM model to design and develop a scenario-based eLearning module using Articulate Rise. Collaborating closely with stakeholders and the SME, I created a content map, storyboard, and interactive tools aligned to proper modeling of exercises, and correcting improper form. The course included knowledge checks and a scenario based quiz (Kirkpatrick Model of Learning - Level 2) and was completed by coaches within one week. Effectiveness was measured through manager observation of coaches at three and six months (Kirkpatrick Model of Learning - Level 3), post-interviews with clients who discontinued their memberships, and tracking of member attrition rates at three months and six months (Kirkpatrick Model of Learning - Level 4), after coaches received training.

SOLUTION: The goal of the course was to retain at least 15% of the 30% of members lost (50% gain), specifically targeting loss due to injuries. Achieving this retention would improve profitability and support G2GF’s long-term sustainability. I developed a 20-minute eLearning module using Articulate Rise, incorporating scenario-based instruction and interactive features such as embedded video, clickable elements, and real-time knowledge checks. The content was strategically segmented to enhance engagement and ensure accessibility across a diverse professional audience.
